Update: We’re Moving to Austin πŸ™‚

It is with great excitement that I announce that my wife Katie and I are moving to Austin, Texas. We are moving to be closer to her family, and both of us are thrilled that Scott can see his grandparents and extended family frequently. With each visit, it became tougher and tougher to return to Reno, NV, and I’m glad to be able to raise my family here.

Although I am originally from the Pacific Northwest, I was in love with Texas at first sight, and I am excited about the opportunities that are in store for us in the Lone Star State. Having master degrees in both business and education, I am excited to see many potential job prospects in which I can use both of my career backgrounds.

It has always a goal of mine to work in a field in which I can make a difference in the field of education within the private sector. I am an enthusiastic problem solver, and I pride myself on my ability to see and avoid complications before they occur. With my vast experience in the field of K-12 and higher education, as well as my business background, I am hoping for an opportunity to utilize both of my passions.

Hello my name is Josh Sherin and I was born in Seattle, WA. With deep Northwest roots, I moved to Reno, NV seven years ago to pursue new opportunities and expand my horizons. Having degrees in both business and education, I have endless enthusiasm when it comes to solving difficult problems with innovative solutions. Although currently a 5th grade teacher, I am looking to utilize my leadership, organizational, and planning skills to enter the fields of project and operations management upon the completion of my MBA in December of 2013.

I spend my free time as I can outdoors enjoying the Sierra Nevada Mountains. From hiking in the spring and summer, to skiing in the winter, a great day for me is spent outside in the fresh air with my wife Katie and our dog Lola. We are expecting our first child this June, and I am extremely excited for the many family camping trips, outings and other parenting adventures that our in our future!

For this blog, I have chosen to further explore mindful and transformational leadership. I was very fortunate to take a course on mindful leadership from Dr. Kuechler and Dr. Stedham at the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall of 2012. I am hoping to continue practicing the mindfulness techniques they taught me and share my experiences with this blog.

I have experienced many benefits from completing daily breath meditations and other mindfulness techniques, from reduced stress, increased focus on my daily tasks, and better decision making. It has made me a better leader, husband, and in a few short months, hopefully a better father. I hope my words inspire you to try mindfulness yourself, and achieve these same positive experiences.
